Mangalore: State Best Teacher Awards for Ashok Kumar, Sarojini K

Udupi/Puttur, Sep 3: Ashok Kumar Shetty Matapady, headmaster, Sriniketan High School, Matapady, and Sarojini Shetty, headmistress of Menala higher primary school in Puttur taluk have bagged this year's state Best Teacher Awards.
Ashok Kumar served as assistant teacher for three years at Vani High School, Nadoor, and is serving as the headmaster of Sriniketan High School since the past 22 years.
He had bagged the district excellent teacher award in 2004–05 and twice bagged the excellent achiever teacher award in social science.
Ashok has done M Ed from Annamalai University. He is serving as president of the district high school headmasters’ and pre-university college teachers association and secretary of Bunts Sangh, Brahmavar.
Ashok Kumar Shetty has already won awards instituted by human resources department, Grama Bachat Scheme, child welfare insurance, polio eradication, AIDS awareness, rainwater harvesting, etc. He also has bagged the ‘Paul Harris Fellow’ award for contribution to the international rotary movement.
After completing his primary, high school and PU education at Kadoor, Kokkarne and Barkur respectively, Shetty secured his degree from Milagres College Kallianpur. He got his postgraduate degree from Karnataka University Dharwad and B Ed from Sarvajna College of Education under Bangalore university.
Shetty has served as president of Brahmavar Rotary and secretary of Buntara Sangha Brahmavar. His school, which registered a pass percentage of 100 percent thrice under his leadership, has always been logging a result of over 90 percent every year in SSLC. Shetty, who was trained under EDUSAT satellite-based education system, is the district level resource person for this subject.
Sarojini Shetty, headmistress of Menala higher primary school in Puttur taluk, has won the state award meant for best teacher in primary schools category. After starting work as a teacher of the government model higher primary school at Mulky in 1972, Sarojini was transferred to Menala in 1975. She was promoted as headmistress of Nanya school in 2007, but came back to Menala school in 2009.
She has bagged the popular teacher award in 2001, district level best teacher award in 2010, and state level Dr Radhakrishnan award for best School Development and Monitoring Committee secretary award.
Sarojini has been encouraging her students to get involved with extra curricular activities by staring health club, sports club, science club and arts club in her school. She has been organizing various programmes like painting, Chutuku literary conference etc in her school.
