Udupi, Sept 2: President of Belapu gram panchayat near Kaup, Deviprasad Shetty, who has been a veteran of panchayat raj movement, has been chosen to preside over the state level conference of panchayat raj representatives, slated to be held in the town during November this year.
The said conference aims at uniting the panchayat raj representatives from all over the state, with the aim of empowering them with the skills to make rightful demands through unity and solidarity. The decision to make Shetty the president of the state conference was taken at a meeting of representatives from all the districts, held recently at CWC Hall in Bangalore.
Deviprasad Shetty, who became the president of Belapu panchayat for the sixth time last year, also is the district JDS president. He also holds important positions in various other organizations.
The said conference will be inaugurated by former President of India, A P J Abdul Kalam. In addition to Karnataka Chief Minister (CM), a number of state and central ministers, leaders of the opposition, resource persons, top officials of the panchayat raj department, retired IAS officers etc will be participating in the conference. On this occasion, a number of dignitaries with significant contributions to the field of panchayat raj system including CM, D V Sadananda Gowda, will be felicitated. On this occasion, a three-day workshop will also be held.
Deviprasad Shetty informed that the agenda of the conference will be finalised and various committees will be formed for the successful conduct of the conference at the preliminary meeting scheduled to be held in the town on September 3.
