Mangaluru, Nov 12: City police commissioner Anupam Agarwal informed that the arrest of the prime suspect and mastermind behind the Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) scam, which resulted in financial losses for individuals who had their assets registered at the city's sub-registrar’s office, is still pending.
Anupam stated, “Three individuals of Bihar origin have already been arrested in connection with this case and are currently in judicial custody. Laptops and printers have been confiscated from the accused. Sixty people have filed complaints, and 10 complaints have been officially registered.
“During the interrogation, it was revealed that three to four teams of individuals from Bihar are involved in a biometric scam. The elusive mastermind used to extract data from the Cauvery-2.0 software and pass it on to other culprits. The other accused would then transfer money using the AEPS system. They have also pilfered data related to other states. Letters have been dispatched to various police stations in other districts of Karnataka, as well as to the police in Andhra and Tamil Nadu.”
