Mangaluru, Nov, 10: "The scarcity of sand in twin districts has become a major problem after the Congress government came to power. Scarcity of sand has economically affected Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts,” said spokesperson of Dakshina Kannada BJP Jagadish Shenava.

He was addressing a press meet here on Friday, November 10.

He further said, "The BJP will support the contractor and builder's associations who are holding a protest against the government on sand shortage. Though the Congress government was formed six months ago, they have failed to provide sand to the public.”

“The government is busy with political indifference. There is in-fight in the Congress party between the groups of Siddaramaiah, D K Shivakumar and Mallikarjun Kharge. Several people depend on sand in the construction field to make a living,” he said.

Shenava alleged that illegal sand mafia is rampant in the district and the government is supporting it. “The Congress government is claiming that they have walked the talk but they have failed in protecting the interests of the people,” he said.

BJP leaders Ravishankar Mijar, Kasturi Panja others were present.
