Udupi, Nov 10: Udupi postal division will be holding ‘Krishnapex’ district level philatelic exhibition at new MGM college premises on Nov 18 and Nov 19. It will be a memorable event in the history of Udupi postal division.
“The postal division was formed in 1973 and it is special that the programme will be held when the postal division will be celebrating its golden jubilee. Udupi district was formed in 1997 and the district level philatelic exhibition is being held for the first time”, said the superintendent of the postal division Ramesh Prabhu.
“Collection of stamps, besides being a hobby, increases our knowledge and reflects on the culture of the country and abroad. Therefore, the hobby is called the king of hobbies. The postal department has been holding such philatelic exhibitions for the growth of the hobby among the youth. Our postal division will hold a two-day long programme. Famous postage stamp collectors in the district will participate in it. Chief Postmaster general of Karnataka circle, K Prakash will light the lamp and inaugurate the programme. Postmaster general of Dakshina Kannada zone, L K Das and director general T S Ashwath Narayan will participate in the event. Dignitaries in the district will also take part as guests in the programme. Stamps will be displayed in more than 150 frames and postal stationery. The exhibition will be held in three parts. The invited stamp collectors in the district who participated in various exhibitions and won prizes will display their collections in the first part. The stamp collectors in the district will exhibit their collections in the second part. Prizes will be awarded to the best collectors. The young people and children in the district will display their stamp collections in the third part. Prizes will be presented for the best exhibition. A seminar about the collection of stamps will be held for children. Four postal covers and eleven special postage stamps will be released. Children and youth should participate in large numbers in the event,” he said.
Executive committee vice president Krishnaraj Vittal Bhat, joint secretary Vasanth, media convener Suresh K and programme organizer Poornima Janardhan were present.
