Kochi, Aug 29: A Gulf Air flight GF 270 from Bahrain deviated from the runway moments before landing at the Kochi International Airport early on Monday August 29. At least seven passengers were injured in the incident.
The aircraft was reportedly carrying 137 passengers including six crew members. The aircraft deviated from the runway at around 4.10 am on Monday.
Sources from the airport said that some of the passengers, in panic, made a quick exit by jumping out of the emergency door even before a ladder was brought to the aircraft.
Aircraft director ACK Naik said that the runway has been closed for bigger aircraft following the accident and it would take at least 10 hours for the airport to be fully operational again. However, smaller aircraft can land, he added.
It is learnt that one passenger has been admitted to a nearby hospital while the others have been discharged after being given the necessary first-aid.
Saithmohed (47) from Palakkad who suffered some fractures has been hospitalized.
Sources say that the cause of the accident could be the weather condition as there was heavy wind and rain at the time of landing.
