Mangalore: Man’s Attempt to Sell 4-day Old Infant Foiled

Mangalore, Aug 28: The man’s attempt to sell his four-day old infant without the knowledge of his wife at Morgans Gate, Jeppu here failed and he is absconding.
The man who made this attempt of selling his own kid has been identified as Kalandhar alias Ravi(21) who hails from Hasan.

Kalandhar and his wife Laxmi(19), both being coolie workers were living in a small tented area at Annachi ground of Morgans Gate. Laxmi had delivered a baby boy four days ago. On Friday noon the baby was missing and worried Laxmi was weeping. The people in the surrounding area came to her aid and started to search the baby. On learning this Kalandhar suddenly appeared with the baby. After handing over the baby to Laxmi, he left the place and is still absconding.
The couple already had a boy child of 2 and half years. This is the second child born to the couple and Kalandhar had planned to sell it for Rs 2,000 to one Anwar thinking that he would not be able to take care of it, it is gathered. Anwar, a local resident has been taken into custody by the police.
Laxmi and tow children are now handed over to the children welfare committee and currently they have been placed in Sadhara, a stay home in Jeppinamogeru. The police have registered a case of attempting to sell the baby against Kalandhar and the search is on in tracing him.
