Mangaluru, Nov 1: "Journalism plays a prominent role in society to express truth. There are certain ideologies that newspapers follow, but they report the news without any prejudice," said Health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao here.
Addressing media persons after inaugurating the 50th health check-up camp at the Mangaluru Press Club on Wednesday, November 1, he said people continued to remain in confusion while distinguishing between real and fake news due to growth of social media. So, the role and necessity of media towards disseminating unbiased news becomes all the more important, he said.
The district in-charge minister also said the government is committed to provide all the required facilities for the welfare of journalists.
Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “The government is committed to develop tourism, industries and the IT sector. The government is planning to introduce programmes to boost tourism in the district. Sports will be given importance with the government committed to build a cricket and a football stadium in the district besides providing space for golf.”
He said the government has the vision to start industry which will not affect nature. “We are giving importance to clear all the pending works of the smart city project and its completion for which the financial grants will be used judiciously,” he said.
The government is according priority to develop all the primary health centres in Karnataka. “We plan to start new 65 PHCs in Kalyana Karnataka region,” he announced.
Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union president Shrinivas Indaje welcomed.
Mangaluru Press Club president Harish Rai spoke on the occasion.
Deputy commissioner Mulai Mugilan, Mangaluru Patrika Bhavan Trust president Ramakrishna, Anand Shetty and others were present.
