Bantwal, Aug 26: In an action that goes to prove that the taluk office here can finish pending work if it wants to do so, 768 caste and income certificates that had been kept pending at the office for the last many months, were delivered to the beneficiaries within 24 hours of the visit by the district deputy commissioner (DC), Channappa Gowda!
It may be recalled that during his surprise visit to the taluk office on Wednesday, the DC had taken the officials responsible for keeping the above files pending to task. He also had instructed the officials to ensure that these certificates are delivered to the concerned before Thursday evening. In another case, he had asked for withholding the salary disbursement of an employee for failing to attend nearly 300 files for long.
Sensing that the DC meant what he said, the village accountants and revenue officials began the task of delivering the certificates on Wednesday evening itself. It is said that work at the office got piled because of the fact that no tahsildar was posted to the office for three months after the transfer of previous incumbent, Ravichandra Nayak, and that Puttur trainee assistant commissioner, Vijay, who discharged duty as in-charge tahsildar, had not been given computerized authorization for long by the department to pass files.
New tahsildar, Narayana Rao, took over charge thereafter. By then, schools and colleges had started. The concession a student out of these certificates gets ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 from primary school to college. The parents perhaps felt it useless to follow up the matter with the office, as the schools and colleges started functioning long back, and as they had already paid the fee.
