Bengaluru, Oct 23: The appointments of chairman and members to Boards and Corporations as well as new working presidents for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will be made after October 25, indicated Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday.

Addressing news persons at the KPCC office, Shivakumar, who is also serving as the incumbent State KPCC chief, said a meeting on the appointments will be held after October 25, which will finalise the names.

"I am also keen to ensure that Congress legislators, party leaders and workers are appointed as early as possible,’’ he said making it clear that he is speaking as a party worker, who is keen on building the party.

Shivakumar said the party will make the appointments after the Dasara festivities. "We had decided to hold the first round of discussions with the chief minister on October 20. But the meeting could not take place as both of us were busy with other programmes. We will sit together and finalise the details after the Dasara festival,’’ he said.

The deputy chief minister said the representatives of the party high command will be attending the meeting.

AICC general secretary and State party in-charge K C Venugopal is presently busy with the distribution of Congress tickets to party candidates in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other States going to the polls. The names of candidates will be announced on Tuesday and the AICC general secretary will be arriving after the meeting, he said.

Shivakumar said the Congress party is committed to deliver on its promises
and provide a responsive government and extended Dasara greetings to the people on behalf of the party and the government.

Answering questions on JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy’s claim that the government is deliberately creating the power crisis in order to buy power at exorbitant rates to earn money through kickbacks without mentioning him by name, Shivakumar said these leaders must be speaking from their own experience and what they had done in the past.

"We are committed to serve the people. We will protect the interests of the people, farmers and industrialists. The government is not worried over comments from people, who want to tarnish the government’s image,’’ he added.
