Bengaluru, Oct 21: Enthused by the tremendous response to the implementation of the Shakti guarantee that is offering free bus travel facility to women in all government buses, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said all the State transport corporations will buy 5,675 new buses.
Speaking to media persons after reviewing the performance of the State Transport Department, he said the State government has allocated Rs 500 crore for purchase of new buses in the State budget.
The usage of commuters has increased in all the State transport corporations by 15% following the implementation of the Shakti guarantee, he said and directed the corporations to increase the number of schedules to help the people and provide better facilities.
Discrimination in Naval Sea Bird Project
The chief minister said the previous BJP government had caused discrimination in the land acquisition and grant of compensation for the Naval Sea Bird, which is establishing a civil enclave, and promised to set right the anomalies strictly in accordance with the Land Acquisition Act of 2013.
Siddaramaiah directed the officials and the Industries Minister M B Patil to ensure that the anomalies in the rehabilitation package for land acquisition are set right and suitable compensation needs is provided.
The chief minister said the persons who lost their lands due to land acquisition must be provided with enhanced compensation, jobs and alternative housing sites as had been promised.
