Kundapur, Oct 20: A unique programme of collecting soil with the title of ‘Nanna Mannu Nanna Desha’ from various villages for a garden in Delhi in memory of freedom fighters for celebration of golden jubilee of independence was set in motion at Kundapur on Friday.
The taluk level procession campaign carrying the pot held under the aegis of Udupi district administration, zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat, gram panchayat, Nehru Yuva Kendra, department of youth and sports and Bharath Scouts and Guides was inaugurated by Kundapur MLA A Kiran Kumar Kodgi. He said that the programme enables everybody to show their patriotism and brings pride for the country.
Kundapur sub divisional officer Rashmi S R who administered oath said that it is our duty to remember everybody who fought for independence. “We should follow our duties while benefiting by the rights provided by the constitution. We should respect every soldiers who work hard to guard our nation. Nanna Mannu Nanna Desha programme should be successful in this connection,” she said.
Chief Officer of the municipal council Manjunath, Kundapur tahsildar Shobha Lakshmi, Kundapur taluk panchayat executive officer Shashidar and others were present.
