Kasargod: Five Held, Snake Venom Worth Rs One Crore Confiscated

Kasargod, Aug 23: The policemen have arrested five persons who were trying to sell snake venom, and confiscated venom approximately valued at one crore rupees from their possession. Two out of them are said to be the natives of the district.
K H Jaffer (38) from Kanhirapoyil House in Kanhangad Balla Kadappura, Rajesh (24), from Nileshshwar Chatamatt Edakkekara House, Abdul Nasser from Paiyil House, Syed Mohammed Rashid (42) from Kannur Kakkatt, and Sarfuddin (37) from Trissur Chavakkad, were arrested by the policemen.
A team of plains-clothed policemen led by Kannur deputy superintendent of police, K V Santosh, posing as intending buyers, approached a lodge near Munishwar Koil in Kannur, and seized a litre of venom, valued at one crore rupees. This operation was conducted on Monday August 22.
It is learnt that after discussions with the policemen who initially pretended to be interested in buying the venom, the gang agreed to sell it for Rs 85 lac. As demanded, the accused handed over five ml of venom to the policemen for testing its authenticity. After conducting chemical tests, the policemen found that the venom was genuine. The police party immediately raided the said lodge, confiscated snake venom, and arrested two persons. Three more were taken into custody from a car parked in front of the lodge.
