Udupi, Aug 22: Excelling in academics and also taking up leadership at the same time is quite a challenging task. Yet, Anisha Edith Albuquerque, has accepted this challenge brave-heartedly, as she begins to create a whole new chapter in the history of Manipal Institute of Communication.
Currently pursuing her MS in communication, Anisha has been elected as the president of MIC. She has created a niche for herself in the history of MIC by being the first lady president the institution has ever had.
Anisha, daughter of well-known personality Felix Albuquerque and Louella Albuquerque, completed her schooling at St Ann’s High School, State Bank, Pandeshwar here. Anisha then studied science at St Aloysius Pre-University College.
Opting for a different field of study, more of her interest, she then moved to Manipal to graduate in Mass Communication at MIC. Anisha is now in her second year of postgraduation, specializing in Broadcast and Television.
Speaking to Daijiworld on her election, Anisha said, “Being the class representative or taking active leadership since the time I stepped foot in MIC made me stand for the elections. Plus my classmates wanted me to take up responsibility to bring a change in MIC 2011-2012”.
Anisha, who used to commute between Mangalore and Manipal on weekends to spend time with her family here, said that her main support system was her family and faculty who encouraged her to stand for the elections and win the votes of the majority.
Spending almost four years in the education hub, Anisha said that Manipal is more like a second home to her. She said, “I am glad that my parents sent me to Manipal. I have gained experience and exposure towards life and MIC has brought out the creativity in me”.
Speaking about her plans for the academic year 2011-2012, she said, “MIC compared to the other colleges like MIT, KMC and the rest needs to participate and have competitive interactions, MIC is going to get amazing guest lectures from the most best and experienced in the field of journalism, film making and business. Every activity or college event is going to go international and have communication colleges take part and share experiences. This is how the year 2011-2012 is going to see a change! History changes not only by me being the first lady president but by MIC thinking and getting 'big'.”
