Byndoor: Handloom weaving training programme held by Kadike Trust

Byndoor, Oct 3: A handloom training programme organised by Kadike Trust was inaugurated on the day of Gandhi Jayanti at Saroja Annappas Loom Shed, Hoseri village.

Kadike Trust after successfully bringing back the Udupi Saree weaving from the path of extinction, is organising this programme for the youths of Hoseri, a small remote hamlet in Yelajith village at Byndoor taluk.

Hoseri is three kilometers from the nearest bus route and has no job opportunities there.

In This training, seven youths with a few from tribal communities, will be trained in hand weaving stoles, shawls, bath towels and other materials in arecanut and other natural colours.

They will be trained by famous master trainer Chandran from Trivandrum.

Period of training will be for 6 months with stipend and the trainees will be supported thereafter in branding, marketing and other required support. The programme was started with singing 'Raghupathi Raghava' Gandhiji’s favourite bhajan by Dhrithi and trainees.

Shanker Narayan Hoseri, founder of Vegan Society while addressing, lauded the initiative by Kadike Trust in making the vision of Gram Swaraj by Mahatma Gandhiji, a reality.

Shreekumar, trustee Kadike Trust narrated the relevance of Gandhian thoughts in present scenario. Mamatha Rai President Kadike Trust briefed about activities of Trust and Training programme.   Trustees Purushottam Adve and Sachin Kumar were present.

Shashikanth Kotian - MD, Shivalli weavers’ society, Dinesh - MD Udupi weavers society, farmers Lingaiah Marati, Narayana Ganiga, Sushila Naik,Mahabala Marati and other seniors, youths and children participated in the event.
