Mangalore, Aug 15: In the final match of the 15th Independence Cup Football Tournament organised by D K District Football Association, Mangalore, Infant Jesus Joyland High School won the championship in the high school boys section. They beat St Aloysius High School 3-0.
St Aloysius PU College were the champions in the P U College section after beating Rosario PU College 3-2.
In the primary school category, Morning Star School, Bolar, won the final match 2-0 against Bharathi English Medium School, Ullal.
The contest for girls was in two categories. Sacred Heart High School, Madanthyar, won in the high school (girls) section, while Joyland School was the runners-up.
In the primary school (girls) category, Morning Star School emerged victorious while Lourds Central School, Bejai were the runners-up.
In the degree college section, Rosario College were champions after beating St Philomena College, Puttur, 2-0.
On the final day of the match, a formal valedictory stage programme was organized at the stadium at Nehru Maidan on Monday August 15. Ganesh Rao, founder chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges, presided over the programme. He declared a donation of Rs 2 lac to make the competition a state-level one from next year onwards. A K Niyaz, director, A K Group, also donated Rs 1 lac for next year’s event.
Prof P C M Kunhi, director, academics and administration, Yenepoya University, Farhaad Yenepoya, director of finance, Yenepoya Group, R P Arora, deputy general manager, Corporation Bank, Govinda Bhat, chief manager, Union Bank, Hampankatta, and Mohan Bengre were present.
