Moodbidri: Befitting Marathon on I-Day Draws Huge Participation

Moodbidri, Aug 15: The Mijar village, here where the Bhoothanatheshwara temple is situated was full of zip right from the early hours of the day with the players, participants and dignitaries, all gathered to partake in the much-awaited Cross Country Monsoon Marathon.
The marathon was organized with the intention to promote health and hygiene, foster social harmony, cultivate appreciation of rural way of life, awaken appreciation for the rich natural splendour of our countryside and inspire the people to protect the environment and ecology.
Country's hockey legend Dhanraj Pillay flagged-off the ceremony. He hoisted the flag right in front of the temple. Speaking on the occasion, he hoped more such events in future in the village. Let the Vijayanath-led committee which has been doing great contribution by providing a platform for villagers to exhibit their talent, organize a hockey match in the village in the coming days, Pillay suggested. He added that villagers to extend their support which would be a boost to hockey players in the country.
K Abhayachandra, MLA, Moodbidri constituency said that we all must live with unity. The marathon strengthens the unity among people as people of all caste and creed partake in it without any disparity. The good works done by Vijayanath Shetty and Dr Mohan Alva to the people of this region is highly commendable, he said.
Dr M Mohan Alva (chairman, Alva's Education Foundation), sandalwood actors Shivadwaj, Pooja Gandhi, Neethu, Chief co-ordinator Vijayanath Shetty, Premanath Shetty, Ulepady Rajesh Nayak among others were present on the occasion.
The celebrities joined with the crowd and actively participated in the day’s proceedings. Actress Pooja Gandhi tapped her feet for the song from her hit movie Mungaru Male. Hockey legend Pillay too was very amiable and made a difference with his presence.
