Independence Day Celebrated in Kuwait


Kuwait City, Aug 15 (IANS) Thousands of Indian nationals celebrated the 65th Independence Day here Monday.

Indian ambassador Satish Chand Mehta unfurled the national flag at the embassy premises. The entire gathering then sang the national anthem, said a statement from the embassy.

Mehta read out the address by President Pratibha Patil. Members of the community later sang patriotic songs.

The ambassador added that Kuwait and India had always shared historical, cultural as well as economic ties.

There are about 290,000 people of Indian origin in Kuwait, according to an Indian government report.
