Mangalore, Aug 13: "Dakshina Kannada district is a land of many great leaders who have lived up to people's expectations in the past. Though I became chief minister accidentally, the values of hard work, discipline and trust acquired in my life will change the common idea of politics, which is today marred by enmity, nepotism, and corruption. I will strive to practice politics of trust and not corruption or nepotism," said chief minister Sadananda Gowda after being felicitated at the Sangha Nikethan Hall here by the district BJP unit on Saturday August 13.
"I will make sincere efforts to gain the trust of people by following in the footsteps of leaders like Srinivas Mallya, TMA Pai and others," he added.
He further said that his political life has been a struggle since day one, but it has made him stronger and he is capable of handling everything given his past experience. He recalled his guru Karamballi Sanjeeva Shetty and said under his guidance he could achieve much in politics.
He said he has already held meetings with chief secretary, leaders and senior police officers to discuss issues relating to some of the departments. Law and order will be given high priority in the state, he said, and added, "Trust of the people can be gained easily with a people-friendly approach rather than keeping a distance from them."
He was accompanied by his wife Datti, who was thrilled to see the CM being felicitated in his hometown. Earlier, Raksha Bandhan was celebrated at Sangha Nikethan wherein girls tied rakhi to the CM and other leaders present.
District BJP president Padmanabh Kottari said that Sadananda Gowda had shown leadership qualities even in his college days. He has always solved problems of farmers and labourers by taking part in protests on their behalf. "He has the unique quality of making people with different views arrive at a consensus. More developmental works will be carried out in the remaining 22 months of the BJP government in the state," he said.
MP Nalin Kumar said that Sadananda Gowda had guided him to speak up in the Lok Sabha to raise issues concerning Karnataka. He ruled out any change in the CM’s post in the month of January and wished that one day Sadananda Gowda would become the Prime Minister of India, much to the applause of party workers.
Minister Krishna J Palemar said that the district is proud of CM Sadananda Gowda as he is the first chief minister from Dakshina Kannada district.
MLAs Angara, Mallika Prasad, deputy speaker of state assembly Yogish Bhat, Shreekar Prabhu, Kumble Sunder Rao, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, mayor Praveen, among others were present during the felicitation programme. Sanjeeva Matandoor welcomed.
