Mangaluru: SJEC organizes Teacher’s Day celebration for staffs in campus

Mangaluru, Sep 6: St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, organized ‘Teacher’s Day’ celebration on Tuesday September 5 in the Kalam auditorium to all the faculty members and staff of SJEC. Prof Lionel Aranha, adjunct professor, IIM Kozhikode was the chief guest on the special occasion. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director, SJEC presided over the programme, Fr Kenneth Rayner Crasta, assistant director, SJEC and Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, SJEC were the guests of honour of the event. Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, Rakesh Lobo, HR manager, various deans and HODs were present on the occasion.

The programme was organized by the cultural club of SJEC under the cultural and community group. Sarvika S, the MC for the event started the celebration by inviting the college choir team to invoke all with the blessings of the almighty through a prayer song. Dr Rio D’Souza welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest on this special occasion. Teacher’s Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, country’s esteemed former president and revered philosopher and as a mark of tribute, the dignitaries on the dais offered flowers to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s portrait and followed by an address on importance of Teacher’s Day by Akarsh, 2nd year, EEE, SJEC.

Prof Lionel Aranha, in his address, shared his rich experience of 30+ years of service in teaching and spoke about the importance of the role of teachers in shaping the career of any student in terms of value addition to their academics and their life. A plant sapling was given as a token of gratitude to the chief guest by Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza. Sarvika S, offered the vote of thanks. The formal function was followed by cultural programmes and games for the faculty.
