Mangalore: Konkani Folklore Awareness, 'Vovio,Vehrse' Training Programme Held

Kinnigoli, Aug 11: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Matove Mangalore with the Catholic Sabha and Stri Sangatan, Kirem  organized a Konkani folklore awareness programme (vovio and vehrse) at Dwishatamanotsava Sabha Bhavankirem-kinnigoli ward, Kinnigoli here recently.

About eight parishes namely Kirem, Kinnigoli, Mulki, Pakshikere, Balkunje, Kateel, Niddodi and Nirude participated in the programme.

In his speech, Fr Paul Pinto said that the Konkani Catholic traditions and culture has been slowly declining over the years and awareness programmes like these are highly essential these days.

B Pundalika Marate, a member of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Mangalore precided over the function. He gave a brief history of Konkani culture and also said that the government is helping to promote it through the Konkani Sahitya Academy by granting financial assistance.

Main resource person of the day, director of Matove, Mangalore James D'Souza aims at organizing many more such awareness programmes to promote and encourage the culture of out ancestors.

Other resource persons of the day Philomena Sequeira, Chetan Arun Dsouza, Peter Fernandes conducted the vovio and vehrse training programme in the second half of the programme.

The vice president of the Our Lady of Remedies, Kirem, Robert Rodrigues, Catholic Sabha President Richard Saldanha, Stri Sangatan president Flavia Suvaris, deanery convenor Heris Pais, Valerian Sequeira and Deanery president of womens association Edna Dsouza among others were present.
