Mangalore, Aug 11: A meeting of representatives of Muslim community drawn from regions falling within the city commissionerate was held at the hall of the city commissioner’s office here on Wednesday August 10.
Various representatives put forth demands like inviting office bearers of various local organizations to the peace committee meetings in addition to religious leaders, keeping close watch on banners, which often give rise to disturbance of peace, stopping the practice on the part of police to evaluate culprits on the basis of their religious affiliations, stopping of atrocities on street vendors, most of whom are Muslims, better behaviour on the part of police officers, stoppage of harassment during passport detail verifications etc.
Some even demanded the station house officers not to get influenced by leaders who come to protect guilty persons.
Police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, said that the meeting had been convened for creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony during the upcoming festival season which include Ramzan, Srikrishna Janmashtami, Ganesha Chaturthi etc. He noted that the policemen go through lot of tension during this period every year. He added that meetings of Hindu and Christian leaders are being convened on Thursday and Friday respectively.
