Shimoga, Aug 10: Newly inducted minister, M P Renukacharya, who represents Honnali constituency in the district, had to face the anger of the supporters of Sagar MLA, Belur Gopalakrishna, during his visit to the town on Tuesday August 9. Renukacharya had accompanied former Chief Minister, Yeddyurappa, during the latter’s visit here.
Yeddyurappa, addressing the gathering, said that he will work with state BJP president, K S Eshwwarappa, to build the party on a stronger footing, by touring all over the state. He said that Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, will also join them whenever he has spare time. He said that his aim is to get 150 MLAs for his party in the next election.
After Yeddyurappa left, the supporters of Gopalakkrishna, who were present there in large numbers, stopped Renukacharya and demanded ministerial berth for their leader. “If you are unable to make Belur Gopalakrishna, who is facing injustice, a minister, you should resign to pave way for him,” they demanded.
Unable to pacify the crowd, Renukacharya reached Travellers Bungalow, and tried to appease the people by sitting with Belur. The people were reluctant to lend an ear to his clarification that he had already spoken with the concerned for giving ministerial berth to Belur. After the people started accusing Renukacharya of becoming minister through gimmicks like resort politics and urged him to resign, Renukacharya chose to lock himself inside his room in the Travellers Bungalow. Thereafter, he left in a hurry, under police protection.
