Panaji, Aug 10: “Swami Nityanand was a visionary whose ideologies are ever prevalent for the people in this modern era. He is immortal because of his spiritual awakening of the masses during his lifetime. It’s the duty of everyone to spread his spiritual message amongst society,” said former Chief Justice M N Venkatachalayya.
Justice Venkatachalayya was speaking at the inaugural of the 50th death anniversary programme of Swami Nityanand held at Talegaon Community Centre auditorium, on Monday August 8. It was organized under the aegis of Swami Nityanand 50th death anniversary committee and under the leadership of his devotee Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty.
Former chief minister Sasikala Kakotkar inaugurated the documentary based on the life of Swami Nityanand.
Billava Sangh member Sripad Naik, MLA Reginaldo Larvenco, Panaji Mayor Yatin V Parekh, former minister Ramakant Khalaf, former MPs Mohan Ravle and Ramakant Angle, entrepreneurs Manglurish Pai Raikar and Umesh Shirodkar, Nityanand Ashram Kanhangad Public Trust chairman Kodavoor Divakar Shetty, Bunts Cultural Association Goa president Balakrishna Shetty, banker Kishore V Narvekar, social worker Sanjay Hegde, labour union leader Christopher Fonseca, Kutpady Chandra Shetty, Shiv Sena leader Suresh Sawant, Nanda Shetty Kalyan, Dr Rajesh Sarvajna, Shobha J Shetty, Adit J Shetty, Sriddit J Shetty, Surendra Mendon Udupi and a large gathering of devotees were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty said that Swami Narayan is one of the greatest Yogis in the world, who propagated universal brotherhood and spiritual bliss.
Goa Bhakta Mandali vice-president Gourish Dond, temple priest M S Sukthankar, honorary chief secretary Avadoot Shirodkar, and treasurer Madhukar Gajinkar were also present.
Earlier, a colourful procession was held from Mahalxmi temple to the venue. Mayor Yatin V Parekh inaugurated the procession.
‘Divyavatara Sri Nityanand’, a book authored by Sasi Shetty Goa, was released on the occasion.
A documentary based on the life of Swami Nityanand was screened during the programme.
Bhajans and various religious celebrations were held by Dada Maharaj Bhajan Mandal and chief priest Sridar Bhat.
Goa Bhakta Mandali chairman Vishnu Surya Wagh welcomed the gathering. Deputy chairman A Venkataratnam explained the miracles performed by Swami Nityanand. Jayakrishna honoured the dignitaries by draping shawls. Keshav Nandakarni compered the programme. Avadoot Shirodkar proposed the vote of thanks.
