Mangaluru, Aug 27: The Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) conducted the 35th fancy dress competition at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday August 27 as part of its annual competitions.
The event commenced with a prayer and the KNS anthem. Liston Derrick D'Souza, vice-president of KNS, introduced the judges and extended a warm welcome to the participants and attendees.
Santhosh Sequeira, Kankanady philanthropist and well-wisher of KNS and Stany Bela, production director of Daijiworld 24×7 were the chief guests for the event.
The competition was inaugurated with the lighting of a lamp. Liston D’Souza, Floyd D'Mello, general secretary KNS, Cletus Lobo, assistant secretary of KNS, Gerald Concessao treasurer of KNS, Alwyn D’Souza competition convener accompanied the chief guests and competition judges for the lighting of the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Santhosh Sequeira said, "I am elated to witness the 35th fancy dress competition organized by the KNS. The legacy of the competition still continues and art lovers have been taking part in it. I appreciate the authority of the KNS in these types of competitions which always helps to increase confidence in children and elders who are on the stage for the first time. Meanwhile, I wish the best for all the participants.”
Lauding the participants, Stany Bela said, "There are many who had only participated in fancy dress competitions in their childhood, and today have become powerful personalities in the world. Hence, we should never underestimate fancy dress competitions and its participants. Fancy dress is one of the best remedies for boosting confidence and facing a gathering under a disguise. In the earlier days, the fancy dress competition of the KNS was very popular across the coastal region. These days, we can add a lot of technical points in the competition. We can use advanced technology. I hope, in the coming years, the KNS’ fancy dress competition will create history with the highest number of participants. I thank the KNS for providing a wonderful platform for the emerging talents of Konkani world.”
Renowned actors of Konkani, Sapna Saldanha Vamanjoor and Maxim D’Souza Angelore served as the esteemed judges for the competition.
A total of 24 entries from 4 different categories with 32 participants below 15 years and above 15 years showcased their talents in this year's competition in solo and duet categories.
The competition received valuable support from Joseph Theodore, and assistance from KNS managing committee members and unit members.
KNS manager Boniface Pinto, and former vice-president of KNS Sunil Menezes handled the computation of scores.
Floyd D’Mello compered the programme and concluded with a vote of thanks.
