Mangalore: Life Term for Husband, One Year Imprisonment for Wife

Mangalore, Aug 9: John K J, who has been accused of murdering Harish Kumar, a resident of Sheetal Apartments in Ujjodi in the city two years back, has been awarded life term by the third additional district and sessions court here. His wife, Shaijamma, has been handed a year’s jail term.

Harish Kumar, owner of Shraddha Engineering Works in Naguri here, was a resident of Sheetal Apartments since the last 15 years. His wife, Kripa Harish, and two children, Shraddha, and Shefali, lived with him. John K J, a flooring contractor, and supervisor of the above apartments, was accused of stabbing Harish Kumar in the chest with a knife, after a quarrel broke among them about certain issues concerning supervision and parking lot, and killing him. Shaijamma was accused of hitting Harish with her footwear on this occasion.

In addition to life term, John has been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5,000. Failing payment of fine, he will have to undergo six additional months in jail. A fine of Rs 500 has been imposed on Shaijamma, with the stipulation to undergo an additional month of imprisonment in case of failure to pay the fine.

In-charge public prosecutor, J G Naik, had appeared in the case on behalf of the prosecution.
