Udupi, Aug 23: “We always studied ‘Akbar the great’ in our history textbooks but never studied about Rani Laxmibai, Shivaji the great, Rana Pratap or Swami Vivekananda who fought for the freedom struggle. But the Centre under the leadership of Narendra Modi has taken efforts to teach these facts to children” said Shobha Karandlanje, minister of state for agriculture and farmers' welfare.
She was speaking at the special photographic exhibition organised by Central Bureau of Communication Mangaluru on the Independence Day, on poor people's Welfare, Prime Minister's Mission for India-2047, Central Government Schemes, PM Pranam and Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat at Poornaprajna College here on Wednesday, August 23.
Addressing the students, Shobha Karandlanje said “This programme has been organised by the Central Bureau of Communication to spread the word about the development activities carried out by the central government. Our prime minister wishes to organise these programs in every district. We have never read about the social and freedom fighters of our nation in our textbooks. A big photo with very little information was available in our textbook about even Gandhiji. There was little information about Gandhi's life in South Africa or even about his role in the freedom struggle. We never studied from our history textbooks about our greatest universities like Nalanda,Takshashila or Kashi. Thousands of students were coming to India to study in these universities. As per the historians, books were being burnt continuously for two days by the attackers. They took away the good things of our nation and also destroyed the good things that we had. We have the British ruling mentality even today as we even have their names for our institutions and pathways. To overcome this mentality our Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to become Aatmanirbhar and today we are moving towards becoming self-sufficient and self-reliant. IPC codes are being changed and around 1500 laws which were earlier used for punishing our freedom fighters have been quashed by the Modi government. By 2047 we will be moving towards becoming the world leader by achieving top position in various arenas. This is the greatest goal of our prime minister Narendra Modi,” she said.
Yashpal Suvarna, MLA Udupim Dr Raghavendra Rao, principal, Poornaprajna College, Udupi, G Tukaram Gowda, field publicity officer of Central Bureau of Communication Mangaluru division and students were present on the occasion.
