Bantwal: Private ambulance carrying patient to Mangaluru overturns, driver killed

Bantwal, Aug 18: A private ambulance, en route to Mangaluru with a patient, overturned at Anchekatte here.

The driver of the vehicle, who sustained serious injuries, succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The deceased driver is identified as Shabir, a resident of Guruvayanakere.

The Sara ambulance, traveling from Beltangady to Mangaluru, toppled along the road at Koppala Anchikatte, near Vagga. The critically injured driver was transferred with the patient in the ambulance to Mangaluru using an alternate vehicle. Hospital sources informed the police that despite receiving treatment in the emergency casualty section, the driver passed away without responding to medical intervention.

Details regarding the patient being transported in the ambulance are currently unavailable.

    These ambulance drivers drive at breakneck speed and extremely rash driving, no wonder many accidents happen because of this . Speed governors should be installed in these vehicles. Poor patients rather than reaching the hospital safely are at an increased risk of death and injury. Dedicated ambulance lanes do not exist even in the big cities!!!!

    Joes Salian, for your information, Ambulances have the same speed limit as other vehicles but they have right of the way as long as the siren is on. They don't have the right to smash a bike if the bike just because the road is narrow.

    There should be some sort of regulation for Ambulances. -- In the process of trying to reach the patient at the earliest to the hospital they are a hazard on the roads -- AMBULANCE if well-equipped will have or should have-- all the necessary lifesaving equipment's -- so it can take care of emergency for a few hours -- it will be like an ICU -- Further patient is traumatized with high-speed driving -- vehicle swaying from one end to the other etc incl others in the vehicle ----
