MAHE Manipal, Shantany Shetty Trust in MoU to set up fund for helping economically backward patients

Udupi, Aug 17: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between MAHE Manipal and Shantanu Shetty Charitable Trust to create an endowment fund for economically backward patients in need of medical treatment.

The agreement outlines that the Trust will deposit Rs 25 lacs for every year for four years, and MAHE will match this amount to create a permanent endowment fund in the name of Shantanu Shetty. This fund will be dedicated to assist poor patients from villages of Athradi Grama Panchayath, Udupi taluk, who require medical treatment at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

During a special event, managing trustee Somanath Shetty from the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust handed over the first instalment of funds to Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of MAHE, Manipal and Dr Girdhar Kini, registrar of MAHE Manipal in the presence of Dr Ranjan R Pai, chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group and Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor of MAHE Manipal.

 

Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, pro vice chancellor of MAHE, Manipal, Dr Padmaraj Hegde, dean of KMC Manipal, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and Sachin Karanth, deputy director, PR and Communication were present from MAHE side.

Trustees of Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust Jithendra Hegde, Rajaram  Hegde, Nataraj Hegde, Gopinath Shetty, and Ashwin Kumar Shetty were present. Dr Girdhar Kini, registrar of MAHE Manipal and Somanath Shetty from Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust officially signed MoU on Thursday, August 17.

During the event, Dr H S Ballal expressed his appreciation for this initiative. Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh congratulated the trust for its contribution and highlighted its significance.

Dr Padmaraj Hegde welcomed the gathering and Dr Avinash Shetty provided a briefing about the agreement and its purpose from the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust and also gave an overview of the endowment fund and its utilisation policy.

This collaboration showcases the commitment of both MAHE Manipal and the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust to support the health care needs of the underprivileged individuals in the mentioned region.
