Udupi: Two Fisherman Survive, One Goes Missing

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug 6: A fisherman named Raghavendra Bangera (31), went missing while undertaking traditional fishing at sea at Manur Padukere near Kota in the district on Friday August 5 morning. Keshav Bangera (30), and Santosh Kanchan (30), swam to safety in the incident.

The boat, named ‘Amriteshwari’, capsized due to huge waves. Earlier in the day, these three fishermen had returned home after finding sea turbulence too hard to handle. However, after seeing some boats in the sea later, they were encouraged to take to the sea again. The boat reached the shore thereafter, but the missing fisherman could not be located. High tide at sea has been hampering rescue work.

Raghavendra Bangera, eldest son of Basava Marakala, has been a well-known social worker in Kota and Manur villages, besides being a BJP activist. He had recently been elected as the new president of Manur Padukere Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti.

Kundapur MLA, Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, and a number of leaders and dignitaries visited the family members of Raghavendra Bangera to console them.
