Mangaluru: Manipal School’s Yuva Tourism club visits Rani Abbakka Tulu Adhyayana Kendra

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 16: As a part of Manipal School Yuva Tourism Club’s historical walk, 52 students from grade 9 to 11, and 2 teachers (Mallika Hareesh and Asha Shetty), had the opportunity to visit Rani Abbakka Tulu Adhyayana Kendra, Bantwal on August 5. By exploring the artifacts and exhibits at the museum, the trip aimed to improve the students' understanding of local history and culture.

Rani Abbakka Tulu Adhyayana Kendra and Tulu Baduku Vasthu Sangrahalaya is a renowned voluntary organization registered as a charitable trust for studies in Tuluva history, culture and folklore. Established in the year 1995 by an eminent historian and museologist, Dr Thukaram Poojary, the center has now grown into a most prominent repository of Tuluva history and culture.

Rani Abbakka was the first queen to stand tall against the Portuguese and fight them repeatedly, yet very little is known of Rani Abbakka of Ullal in history books as she has been relegated to the domain of folk memory and tales of foreign visitors.

The Adhyayana Kendra offered an impressive collection of artifacts and exhibits that showcased the rich history of Mangaluru. The exhibits covered various aspects, including the prehistoric era, colonial times, significant historical events, and the contributions of notable local figures. Each exhibit was thoughtfully curated and accompanied by detailed descriptions, which engaged the students and sparked their curiosity.

The interactive question and answer sessions gave students the opportunity to ask questions and deepen their understanding of the historical context. Students found the visit to the local historic museum as an enlightening educational experience. Students were encouraged to explore and learn from their roots and the contributions of their predecessors.

In all, it was an unforgettable learning opportunity that complemented the students’ classroom studies.
