Udupi, Aug 16: Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at Christ School Manipal on August 15. The chief guest Dr Lazar Mathew, senior advisor at Manipal University received the guard of honour by correspondent Fr Romeo Lewis and principal Eliza Vaz and unfurled the national tricolour.
Addressing the students, he encouraged them to actively participate in nation-building and contribute positively to the society. The students of class 6 to 10 performed mass the drill in perfect synchronisation to the beats of the school band. The students' choir in their melodious voices sang the patriotic song- that awakened everyone’s feelings towards the motherland. The school campus was decorated with tricolour balloons and flags to commemorate the day. Jairus Castelino of class 9 briefed the importance of the day.
The celebration ended with the national anthem with the vocal accompaniment by the students. Ananya Ganiga of grade 10 anchored the programme and Leroy Monteiro of grade 10 proposed the vote of thanks. Students, teachers, parents, school managing committee and parishioners witnessed the occasion.
