Mangaluru, Aug 15: The Department of Political Science and the NCC Unit of St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru celebrated the 77th Independence Day – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The chief guest Cdr Claudy Lobo, commanding officer, 05 Kar Naval NCC Unit Mangalore was escorted by the NCC Cadets along with Sr Dr M. Maria Roopa A.C., joint secretary, St Agnes Institutions, Sr Dr M Venissa A C, the principal, Sr Carmel Rita A C, administrator, Sr Clera A C, vice-principal and ANO’s Capt Gayathri B K and Fg Offr Dr Hithakshi B.
The chief guest unfurled the national tricolour and in his address he said that after the unending suffering for years we are here today to salute the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the country. "Our soldiers are still protecting us from enemies throughout the year in rough weather. We need to salute and acknowledge their contributions and that is the real essence of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav," he said.
He further said: "Our country has progressed tremendously in the field of education, medicine, telecommunication and technology and we need to continue this and make sure that our country progresses towards a better future which focuses on preserving our ecology as well."
The chief guest's address was followed by the distribution of the national flag. The cultural programme began with a prayer followed by welcome dance, patriotic song, folk song and a contemporary dance. The programme concluded with pledge and National Anthem.
