Moodbidri: Carmel School celebrates 77th Independence Day

Moodbidri, Aug 15: Carmel School (CBSE) celebrated 77th Independence Day with patriotic fervour on August 15. To commemorate the sovereignty of the nation, the chief guest unfurled the national tri-colour flag at Holy Rosary campus. The national anthem was sung paying tribute to the freedom fighters. The school contingent offered the guard of honour to the Tiranga and marched past the national flag.

This auspicious day began with a meaningful Eucharistic banquet, celebrated by Fr Dony CSSR thanking the Lord for His numerous blessings bestowed on every person and on the country. The cultural extravaganza was arranged in the school auditorium. All the esteemed dignitaries were welcomed by the marvellous school band students. The programme started with prayer service beseeching God’s blessings on the country and its citizens followed by a mesmerizing welcome dance arousing patriotic feeling in all. Idanth Shetty, Manvith Bhandary, Ashel Menezes and Shreeya B N welcomed the gathering in a unique way. A heart touching mime show was presented by the students of class VII wherein they showcased the life and sacrifices made by the soldiers during the freedom fight. A colourful Patriotic dance performance by the students infused a patriotic zeal in the audience. Significance of the day was enumerated by Jacob James and Ayush. The chief guest for the occasion was Leo Daniel D’Silva, retired Indian Army officer and an ex-serviceman currently working in Infosys, an IT company. The chief guest was escorted by the students to the dais along with Sr Maria Gracilda the principal, Sr Elena the administrator, Sr Preena AC the vice principal, and Sr Ranitha the co-ordinator. Sr Preena presented a memento as a token of love and respect to the esteemed guest. 

The guest in his address wished everyone on this solemn occasion. He urged the students to imbibe the spirit of patriotism into every aspect of their life. Dina and Sushma Shetty were honoured for successfully completing basic training as flock leaders, Pramila and Prajwal Pereira were also honoured with the certificate of completing basic training as a scout master. Sr Gracilda in her address thanked the chief guest and the parents for their presence. She reminded the students about the sacrifice made by great freedom fighters and asked everyone to pray for Mother India and appreciated the students of grade V & VIII along with their class teachers Yashodha and Amritha for staging a creative programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Chandan T Poojary and the programme was beautifully compered by Sienna Pinto and Meldric Lewis.
