Udupi: Second edition of Manipal Dental Conference held

Manipal, Aug 12: The Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, proudly hosted the eagerly anticipated second edition of the Manipal Dental Conference on August 10-11. Aligned with MAHE's declaration of 2023 as the Year of Internationalization, this undergraduate student conference featured distinguished alumni who have excelled at international universities as keynote speakers.

The esteemed conference was inaugurated by Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh, vice chancellor of MAHE. In his address to the enthusiastic student audience, he emphasized the paramount significance of multidisciplinary research and ardently encouraged students to actively engage in research pursuits. Gracing the inaugural ceremony was Dr Rohit Singh, director of Alumni Relations at MAHE,who underscored the lasting bonds between the institution and its accomplished alumni.

The conference boasted an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, all accomplished alumni, who have made indelible marks in their respective fields across international borders. The distinguished speakers included Dr Subraya G Bhat, associate professor at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia, Dr Soni Stephen, clinical senior lecturer in pediatric dentistry at the University of Sydney; Dr Neil Pande, director of Healthy Smiles, Kathmandu, Nepal; Dr Arindam Dutta, senior clinical lecturer in restorative dentistry at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University, UK; and Dr Ritul Agarwal, an accomplished aesthetic dentist in the UAE. The keynote addresses resonated with insights into pioneering concepts spanning pediatric dentistry, aesthetic dentistry, implantology, restorative dentistry, and periodontology.

The conference witnessed an enthusiastic participation of over 300 undergraduate students hailing from 35 dental schools across the nation. The event's agenda was enriched by a total of five enlightening guest lectures, supplemented by four immersive hands-on workshops. Additionally, the conference featured an e-poster presentation session, during which a remarkable array of 61 e-posters were showcased.

The Manipal Dental Conference 2023 emerged as a significant platform for dental students to glean invaluable insights from accomplished alumni and to exchange ideas among peers. This event not only underscored the college's commitment to fostering academic excellence but also served as a testament to the institution's dedication to innovation, research, and international collaboration in the field of dentistry.
