Mangaluru, Aug 11: SJEC AICTE IDEA LAB in association with the department of mechanical engineering organized a three-day faculty development program on advanced manufacturing processes for the faculty members of diploma, ITI, and engineering colleges of the Mangaluru region.
A total of 28 faculty members registered for the workshop and actively participated during the three days schedule.
Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, dean of R&D, and coordinator of the idea lab welcomed the gathering and briefed the participants about the activities of the Idea lab. Dr Ravikantha Prabhu conducted training on software like TINKERCAD, ART CAM, CREALITY, LIGHT BURN, etc., primarily used to create the design of the model or product to be developed.
During the afternoon session, participants were divided into two batches. Each batch was given a demonstration and hands-on practice with 3D printer machine and 3D scanner. On the second day, participants were divided into 4 teams and instructed to submit a project idea. Later all the members were given practical training on CNC wood router machine and laser cutting machine. The third and final day of the workshop focused on project work execution where every team prepared a model which was fabricated using all the machines and equipment available in the IDEA lab.
Rohith Prakash Veigas, Rajesh Belchada, Madhavi Gatty, and Dr Vijay V S conducted different sessions as workshop resource persons. Deekshith, Harshith, Praveen DSouza and Chaithra K demonstrated the working of different machines and guided the participants for project work as tech gurus. Participants expressed very positive feedback and thanked the organizing team for conducting immersive training on advanced machinery available in the SJEC-AICTE IDEA Lab. External faculty members for the FDP were from reputed institutions like Dr TMA Pai Polytechnic Manipal, Karnataka Government Polytechnic, Mangaluru, Government Polytechnic, Bantwal, and SDM Mangalajyothi ITI Mangaluru.
