Mumbai, Aug 4 (IANS): Indian equities opened trading Thursday on a positive note and were ruling in the green after sliding slightly for a brief while some 15 minutes post the opening bell.
The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was ruling at 17,980.93
points after 75 minutes into trading, with a gain of 40.38 points, or 0.23 percent over the previous close of 17,940.55 points.
The key index at one point had dipped to 17,939.13 points. As many as 20 out of the 30 Sensex stocks were in the green, nine were trading below the previous close, while one remained unchanged.
Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure and Jaiprakash Associates, led the gainers, while the losers were led by Mahindra and Mahindra, Bajaj Auto and ITC.
At the National Stock Exchange NSE), the broader S&P CNX Nifty, a basket of 50 shares, 5,423.30 points, with a gain of 18.50 points, or 0.34 percent.
