Mangaluru, Aug 2: In an effort to make the city drug-free, the CCB police successfully arrested three drug peddlers in possession of MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) drug.
Acting on precise information about the drug trade, the CCB police apprehended the three peddlers who were allegedly selling drugs from a white Maruti Swift car with registration number KA-50-N-8081 at Tachani premises, Talapady - Devipura road, Ullal. The accused had obtained the drug from Bengaluru for distribution to the public.
The arrested individuals are Mohammed Hafiz, also known as Appi (35), a resident of Sajipa, Munnoor village, Bantwal, currently staying in front of St. Sebastian school, Helekote, Ullal, Mangaluru; Amir, also known as Ammi (34), a resident of Nandavara house, Munnoor village, Bantwal; and Zakir Hussain, also known as Thachi (28), a resident of Dasaragudde house, Sajipamunnor village, Bantwal, currently staying at Santhekatte, near Mosque, Haleangady, Mangaluru.
The police seized 200 grams of MDMA drug worth Rs 10 lakhs, along with a Maruti Swift car valued at Rs 1,70,000, three mobile phones, and a digital weighing scale. The total value of the confiscated items is approximately Rs 15,70,000. A case has been registered in this regard at Ullal police station, and investigations are underway as more individuals are suspected to be involved in the drug network.
Mohammed Hafiz has a history of criminal activities, including a murder case at Mulki police station, three robbery cases, a drug peddling case at Bajpe police station limits, two bike theft cases at Mangaluru south police station, and theft cases at Shirva and Padubidri police stations. A total of eight cases are pending against him. He was released on bail and had been absconding without appearing in court, leading to a warrant for his arrest.
Additionally, Mohammed Hafiz faces other charges, including attempted murder at Barke police station, assault at Mangaluru east police station, threats, a murder case at Bantwal town police station, and an attempted murder case at Dharmastala police station.
The arrest operation was carried out by CCB Police inspector Sham Sunder H M, PSI Rajendra B, Sudeep M V, Sharanappa Bhandary, Narendra, and the CCB staff.
