Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 2: St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore organised an orientation programme for the first year PG students on August 1 in L F Rasquinha Hall.

Dr Malini Hebbar, principal, Swastika National School, Mangaluru, was the resource person for the motivational talk. The principal, rev Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar & controller of examinations, Dr Loveena Lobo, director of Maffei Block, Fr Vincent Pinto, finance officer and Dr P P Sajimon, dean, PG Studies, were on the dais.

Addressing the gathering, rev Dr Praveen Martis briefed about how the college would mould the students under three components such as academic intelligence, character formation and social concern so that each student cherishes every aspect of life with dignity.

Dr Malini began her talk saying, "It's great to be young anywhere in the world, but it's equally great to be with the young anywhere in the world." She advocated the book 'Go Kiss the World' by telling the narrative of Subroto Bagchi, whose sick mother advised him to 'Go Kiss the World', and indirectly encouraged him to carry on with his life without worrying about his mother's illness. "Do you want to be successful in life? If you want to be successful, start now," urged the speaker. She used the metaphor of a hammock, which is easy to get into but tough to get out of, and applied it to life, saying, "You may think of yourselves as mature and you may think of yourselves as capable of making decisions for your life, making choices for yourself, ourselves. But there is always the risk of getting involved in anything unhealthy, even if it provides you with temporary pleasure." She ended the lesson by telling the pupils, "In these two years, try to be academically brilliant. Develop your EQ so that it can help you create your character. Be innovative and resilient so that you can meet the trials of time."

Dr Rita Crasta, assistant professor, department of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Physics, compered the programme. Dr Loveena Lobo welcomed the gathering. Dr Alwyn D’Sa introduced the heads of the PG departments.
