Mangaluru: Feast of St Ann celebrated at patron's school with grandeur, gaiety

Mangaluru, Aug 1: The feast of St Ann, the Patron Saint of the School was celebrated with grandeur and gaiety in the school. The festivities this year included the felicitation of the retired staff members of the school as part of the bicentennial celebration of the birth anniversary of venerable Mother Veronica. The chief guest of the programme was Dr Sr Prem D'Souza AC, the administrator of Carmel School CBSE.

In her message, she gave 10 points to be followed by students and the retired teachers to make their lives happy and contented. The cultural programme was performed by the students of classes 10 A and B. The solemn prayer service included readings from the holy scriptures. Ayesha Sabha introduced the chief guest and welcomed the gathering. Since St Ann’s Feast is celebrated as Parents Day or Grandparents Day world over, a Kannada skit on the need for care and respect for parents and elders was enacted. The life and virtues of St Ann were depicted through a short play in English. The audience was enthralled by a Pahari dance, a mime show by the boys and ‘Kansale’ folk dance. The programme was compered in English by Nishal Lobo and in Kannada by Ashwini.

The teaching and non-teaching staff who served in the school in the past were felicitated. Eight of them who were present were given a rousing welcome onto the dais. Each one was introduced and thanked in order of their seniority by Loretta Pearl. The chief guest Dr Sr Prem D'Souza AC, the headmistress Sr Ruby D'Souza AC, draped each of them with a shawl and presented them with the traditional, fruits and flowers and a memento. The programme ended with a fellowship meal with the honored guests.
