Mangaluru, Jul 25: Carmel School (CBSE) organized a unique outreach programme on July 22 in conjunction with school feast, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The students of class X participated in the outreach programme wholeheartedly in order to encourage community engagement and foster a sense of social responsibility.
The programme commenced with the students and teachers contributing toiletries, bathing essentials, and face towels to be distributed among the less fortunate individuals in the hospital. The overwhelming response from the students and staff resulted in an abundance of supplies, ensuring that those in need would receive the care and comfort they deserve.
The visit to Wenlock Hospital began with much enthusiasm and curiosity. The resident medical officer (RMO) Doctor Shetty and the hospital staff warmly welcomed the students, guiding them through the hospital premises. The dedication of the medical staff inspired many students.
In small groups, students were assigned to various hospital departments, including emergency, paediatrics, destitute, and general medicine. In addition to spending time with patients, students engaged in conversations with them and actively listened to their concerns and experiences. This approach alleviated loneliness and anxiety among patients. The students' enthusiasm and positive energy spread to the patients, creating a happy atmosphere within the wards. The students donated Detergent and bath soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes and towels to the patients.
The students' compassionate gesture left an indelible impression on the recipients, fostering a sense of empathy and kindness among the youth. The staff donated a wheel chair to the hospital and also assisted the students in their noble assignment.
Wenlock Hospital's administration and staff were moved by the students' dedication to their cause and appreciated the school's efforts in organizing such a thoughtful event. They encouraged other schools and organizations to follow their lead, engaging in community-based initiatives that would create a positive impact.
