Mangaluru, Jul 23: "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has extended the budget session to three weeks. The session has been extended with the only intention of discussing the people’s problems in the Assembly,” said District Congress Committee president Harish Kumar.
He was addressing a press meet in Congress Bhavan here on Sunday, July 23.
“In the assembly, the BJP representatives never behaved democratically and as per constitution. It is really a painful thing. The BJP being a national political party has failed to appoint the opposition leader so far,” he said.
He also added that U T Khader being a speaker is taking measures in an unbiased way.
"Ten MLAs were suspended for their uncivilised and bad behaviour. They have torn the papers and threw them at deputy speaker Rudrappa Lamani who comes from a Dalit family. Representatives elected by the people should not behave in such a way. Unfortunately, representatives from the coastal region have joined to protest by getting down to the well of the Assembly. The BJP had protested against the Congress government for allegedly "misusing" IAS officers but it is not true. Even the BJP has done the same thing during its regime," Harish Kumar said.
Demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister of Manipur he said, " More than three months have passed and the Manipur government has failed to control the violence. Students cannot attend to the school. Agricultural activities have come to a standstill. The economy has completely collapsed. But the Prime Minister of India has remained silent", he added.
"If they cannot control violence let them resign," he said adding that the Congress will hold a series of protests against the violence at Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress leader Ivan D' Souza said, "Parading women nude is really a shameful act. BJP women leaders are silent on this issue. I want to question whether they live or not. When such brutal acts are taking place against women, is Shobha Karandlajeis alive or not? When such violence is happening the prime minister is silent. He is unfit to rule the country. So we are planning to holding protests in every talk against the violence in Manipur on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The governor should intervene and seek the resignation of the Manipur chief minister. For the past three months, the government has failed to control the violence. On Saturday there will be a massive protest in Mangaluru/"
Ivan also alleged that Mangaluru South MLA Vedvyas Kamath by showing such an uncivilised attitude in the assembly is insulting the people of Mangaluru. He should tell what is his contribution to Mangaluru..
"The BJP leaders have been frustrated due to guarantee schemes of the Congress government. They need treatment for it," he said.
He also said that there is no proper leadership in BJP. "Our district is in the top position in registering the beneficiaries," he said.
Nirajpal, Sobhod Alva, Prakash Salian, Appi, Manjula Nayak, and others were present.
