Mangaluru: MSNIM holds ‘Kesard Onji Dina’ day-long excursion to rural Tulunadu

Mangaluru, Jul 22: The MBA students of Manel Srinivas Nayak Institute of Management (MSNIM) gained a unique experience, when the institute took them on a day long excursion to rural Tulunadu on Thursday, July 13, called Kesard Onji Dina (a day in the slush fields), the field trip to Devasa Gadde, Thiruvail, Vamanjoor, on the outskirts of Mangaluru gave the students a glimpse of rural Dakshina Kannada and the rich Tulunadu culture.

The programme was inaugurated in traditional Tulunadu style. The local hosts, Laxman Amin and Boja Poojary of Devasa House, Thiruvail, were the chief guests. The institute director, Dr Molly S Chaudhuri, presided over the programme.

As a part of this programme, competitive sporting events were held in the rain-filled, slushy paddy field. Competitions like throwball, volleyball, running race, breaking the pot, tug of war, backward running and carrying your partner were held in the slush field. The day concluded with prize distribution to the winners.

The students participated enthusiastically in the activities. For many of the students, it was their first experience getting down into a paddy field.

Since last year, kesard onji dina has become an annual event for the institute to familiarise the students with village life and rural culture. Apart from bridging the urban-rural divide, it is also an important educational experience for management students. The entire slush field reflects a competitive business environment that is full of challenges. It teaches the students to compete against all odds and win. It encourages team spirit, hard work, strategy and a competitive spirit.
