Nitte Institute of Hospitality Services (NIHS) hosts event 'Aatidonji Dina'

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Nitte Institute of Hospitality Services (NIHS) hosted an event, “Aatidonji Dina” which was organized on July 15 by the students of college. The event started with the “Nasik Band” leaving the entire students and the faculty to groove on the drum beats. The college had put up various cultural games such as Bite the Tomato, Grating the coconut, Filling the bottle etc. The event was then followed by a formal function.

Dr Meenakshi Ramachandran, professor at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College was the chief guest for the program. “Aati is not just celebrated in Dakshina Kannada but also in different cities and states following their own rituals around India. There was a myth which once said if a woman is getting pregnant during the time of Aati, she will give birth to a girl child. These were the earlier beliefs during the earlier generations. But now generations have changed where people are unaware about the Mangalore’s Cuisine and prefer to eat westernized food” she said.


The program was then followed by the extravagant cultural performances by the students such as Yakshagana, Folk dance and music which mainly included Mangalore’s popular “Pilli Nalike” beats in every cultural performances with the students and faculty crowd motivating energy into every person.

Delicious food prepared by the Faculty and students of the Institute which included a variety of Mangalore delicacies such as Pathrode, Gende Dadye, Pelakai da Gatti, Moode, Kukku da Rasa, Yeti chutney etc were served on a banana leaf. The meal ended with a sweet moongdal payasam.

All guests who participated in the function appreciated the food and arrangements.

Amar Z Cherian - principal of NIHS, Joel, event coordinator,  Harshal - president, Meurial - secretary coordinator of the students council of the college were also present on the dais.
