Mangaluru, Jul 19: Lourdes Central School observed Vanamahotsava week from July 3- 8 to create awareness about the protection of trees. The activities and assemblies were later extended till July 15.
The Lourdes Central School Vanamahotsava week was inaugurated with an innovative 'Tree of values ' chart by the students of class 6. The students presented the assembly on the topic 'Tree is Life' under the guidelines of Lavina Castelino.
The finale assembly was conducted on July 8 by the students of class IV A under the guidance of Sowmya K. The finale song was sung by the choir group and green pledge was taken. Significance on the topic 'Role of trees in balancing the ecosystem' was read out wonderfully by Ananya Ganu of class IVA. The students of Class IX, Shreya Hegde and Anusha Nayak presented the Harikathe on the topic 'Awareness on protection of trees'. It conveyed a beautiful message about the cry of the trees and how we need to save them.
On the occasion of finale, a sapling was planted by the students of class IV A. The principal Fr Robert DSouza, vice principals Belita Mascarenhas and Anita Thomas, Sowmya K and Preethi K were present.
The principal, Fr Robert DSouza spoke about the role of trees in conserving nature and also the need of saving trees.
The green contest - competitions in connection with LCS Vanamahotsava week was conducted on July 15. The students participated actively in the competitions and learnt the importance of trees. An activity of planting the sapling in their house was given to students and they did it with great zeal.
The activities helped the students to identify their talents and have in-depth knowledge about trees and nature. The celebration of this festival inculcated the value of loving nature and growing more trees.
