Moodbidri, Jul 18: Carmel School celebrated the feast of Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness of the school, with great devotion on July 15. This day holds special significance as it marks the Foundation Day of the Apostolic Carmel congregation, which was established by Venerable Mother Veronica, the foundress of Apostolic Carmel, in 1868 at Bayonne, France.
The celebration commenced with a Holy Eucharist, attended by all Catholic students and teachers. Fr Onil D'Souza presided over the mass as the main celebrant. Following the religious service, a cultural program was hosted by grade V B.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer service emphasizing the importance of grace in fostering divine intimacy. This was followed by a captivating welcome dance. A skit highlighting the significance of the Brown Scapular was enacted, conveying the message that wearing it provides protection from all dangers and harm. The students then enthralled the audience with an exciting entertainment dance performance. The chief guest for the occasion was Sr Preena AC, the vice principal. Principal, Sr Maria Gracilda, warmly welcomed everyone with a potted sapling.
In her speech, the chief guest emphasized that "Carmel refers to a garden, and each and every student should strive to be a beautiful flower in the garden of Carmel." Sr Gracilda enlightened the students about Mother Veronica's significant contributions in establishing the Congregation and the Apostolic Carmel Sisters' dedication to education and acts of mercy. She also highlighted the importance of overcoming life's obstacles and staying focused on achieving our goals, using the metaphor of a mountain that needs to be crossed.
A video presentation showcased the significance and importance of the day. The celebration concluded on a joyous note with greetings exchanged and sweets distributed to all the children. It was indeed a memorable day for the teachers and students alike.
The program was skillfully compered by Raizel Serrao and D S Varun. Nishma Hegde delivered a warm welcome address, and Jerwin Mendonca eloquently explained the significance of the day. Chrystal Sequeira proposed a vote of thanks.
During the mass, the offertory items collected were later distributed to the needy and underprivileged families in the local community.
