Abhyuday, NMAMIT, Nitte to hold capacity building workshop for teachers, counsellors, administrators

Mangaluru, Jul 16: Abhyuday, the Department of Counselling, Welfare, Training & Placement at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte (Deemed to be University), will be organizing the 10th edition of a capacity-building program for teachers, counsellors, and administrators in higher education. The program is scheduled to take place from July 18th to 21st, 2023.

The four-day learning and development intervention, titled "Understanding our Adolescents, Suicide Prevention & Introduction to Therapeutic Counselling," is sponsored by Wipfli India LLP. This annual workshop has been running successfully for the past ten years.

The workshop will focus on various themes over the four days. Day 1 will cover suicide prevention, while Day 2 will address the identification of adolescent problems and psychiatric disorders in professional colleges. Day 3 will explore understanding student expectations and coping with stress, and Day 4 will delve into understanding brain health, counselling ethics, and systems. The sessions will incorporate real case studies, demonstrations, short films, discussions, role plays, and practice sessions.

Professor Shalini K Sharma, a practicing mental health professional and former head of the Abhyuday Department of Counselling, Welfare, Training, and Placement at NMAMIT, will serve as the chief guest, keynote speaker, and resource person for all four days. Other resource persons include Dr P V Bhandary, a consultant psychiatrist and director of Dr A V Baliga Hospital in Udupi, and Dr Rameela Shekhar, the director and mental health professional at Manashanthi Counselling Centre in Mangaluru.
