Udupi, July 15: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady conducts AICS inter-school table tennis tournament on the occasion of Ruby Jubilee celebration on July 15.
Ganesh Poojary, chief guest of the programme inaugurated the event.
Ganesh Poojary, physical education director NMAN Institute of Technology, Nitte on the occasion said, “St Mary’s Institute has always given importance to sports in their academics. Table tennis can be played at any age, there is no age restriction. In world ranking our Indian women’s team is in 14 th rank and men’s team is in 15 th rank. The table tennis infrastructure in India has not developed. If wealth is lost we lose nothing, if health is lost something we lose and if fitness or character is lost we lose everything. I request everyone to spend a few minutes exercising to be physically fit."
Fr Charles Menezes said, “Table tennis is a fast playing game. Not your excellence in play matters your discipline in play matters. Being fit and being in play ground makes us more human, all the qualities will be brought out here. Whatever you play, how you conduct yourself matters. Most of the sports people are well-disciplined people. Sports also refresh the mind and give peace."
The referees of the tournament were florally welcomed by the correspondent of the school.
The chief guest Ganesh Poojary, Fr Charles Menezes correspondent and other dignitaries played the table tennis and gave beginning to the event.
A total of 14 teams under 14 boys, 11 teams under 14 girls, 13 teams under 17 boys, 9 teams under 17 girls participated in the tournament.
Poornima and Wenilda Rodrigues compered the event. Renuka Acharya gave a vote of thanks.
Fr Johnson L Sequeira principal St Mary’s English Medium School, Rita Quadros vice principal, Gerald Leo Pinto physical education director, Bhaskar and Amitha Kumari physical instructor, teaching and non-teaching staff, student volunteers and participants from different schools were present.
