Mangaluru: Srinivas University organizes cultural event 'Kalaspandana - 23'

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Cultural Extravaganza 'Kalaspandana - 23' was organised at Srinivas University Institute of Engineering & Technology (SUIET), Mukka, Mangaluru. Chief guest of the programme Manohar S Shetty (chairman & managing director of Sai Radha Group, president of CREDAI, president of Association of Coastal Tourism and president of Rangasthala Cultural Service Trust) inaugurated Kalaspandana – 23 by lighting the lamp.

Dr Thomas Pinto (dean, Srinivas University Institute of Engineering & Technology) presided over the programme. Dr Netravati P S (associate dean, SUIET Mukka) was the guest of honour.

Prof K. Shrinath Rao (convener, Kalaspandana-23), and Sannidhi Shetty (student coordinator) were present on the dais. Dr Netravati P S delivered the welcome address.

Prof K Shrinath Rao presented an overview of “Kalaspandana” and introduced the chief guest and dignitaries on the dais.

In his inaugural address, Manohar S Shetty congratulated the college management, faculty, staff and students for organising cultural Extravaganza 'Kalaspandana – 23'. Manohar Shetty emphasized that students should voluntarily participate in such cultural competition programmes to promote their leadership and cultural abilities. He said that youth should cultivate the rich heritage and culture of Tulunadu and render good service to the society.

Manohar Shetty said, "More encouragement should be given to agriculture and tourism. Youths should try to become a successful entrepreneur by achieving success through determination, concentration and hard work. Today's youths are falling prey to evils. By engaging the youths in music, fine arts and cultural activities, they can avoid indulging in vices. Fine arts, cultural activities and traditional heritage inspires the youth for a better life. Time is like flowing water, it never repeats itself, so one should make the best use of time and opportunities." Manohar Shetty extended best wishes to the participants and organizers of Kalaspandana-23.

In his presidential address, Dr Thomas Pinto congratulated the students for organizing the programme. He said that the rich culture and tradition of Tulunadu and Karnataka is inspiring everyone to get involved in promoting fine arts, culture and heritage.

Prof Shwetha Pai read the names of prize winners of various competitions conducted since one week as part of Kalaspandana-23: Punarutthana (best out of waste), Madarangi, Chitranjali, Atil (cooking without fire), Bindu Rekha, Mukhaa Mukhi (mock press), and singing.

Chief guest Manohar S Shetty distributed the prizes to the winners.

After the formal programme, students showcased cultural programmes on the stage. 'Parampara' (Divinity of Traditional Culture) was the theme of Kalaspandana programme for this year. Cash prizes, certificates and trophies for the winners were distributed in the valedictory programme held in the evening.

Renowned artiste, cine actress, dancer, Shailashree Mulki and artist, dancer, Swathi Sanjeev Poojary were the judges for the cultural variety competitions.

Prof Rohan Fernandes delivered vote of thanks. Students Vaishnavi Shenoy and Neha Karunakar compered the programme as master of ceremony. Shrinidhi performed the invocation.

Agari Raghavendra Rao (proprietor, Agari Enterprises, Surathkal), Co-conveners of Kalaspandana Prof Thanmayee Susheel and Prof Swarna H R, heads of various departments, faculty members, staff and students witnessed the glorious cultural extravaganza.
