Kasargod, Jul 6: The district police team have arrested two persons on charges of pushing a borewell agent to death.
The deceased, identified as Thomas Crasta (53) hails from Bela Choukar Pilipalla, who was reportedly pushed into a toilet pit to death by two accused persons. The arrested accused are Muneer (40) and his wife's brother Ashraf (36) from Choukar.
Ashraf who had gone missing has been nabbed and brought from Chikkamagaluru. The accused have confessed to the crime of stealing gold ornaments and murder.
Superintendent of Police Dr Vaibhav Saxena said the accused had also stolen 35 grams of gold chain that was on Thomas Crasta's body along with a ring weighing 7 grams.
The police have arrested the accused within a week of the crime. The police are investigating and collecting additional details pertaining to the crime.
The stolen gold ornaments have been seized and action taken against the accused, police sources said.
This criminal act came to light on July 1 and Thomas Crasta had been missing since the last four days and environmentalists smelt something amiss before they found a foul smell emanating from a toilet pit who reported the matter to Badiyadka police. When police visited the spot the heinous crime came to light.
It is said that Thomas Crasta had gone missing since June 24 under mysterious circumstances.
Thomas Crasta's mortal remains were stuffed in a gunny bag and shoved into one corner of a slab in the toilet.
Thomas Crasta's body was sent for a post-mortem examination to Kannur's Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.
The report said the deceased had suffered a grave head injury and it is also learnt that Thomas Crasta may have been bludgeoned to death with a stone.
DySP P K Sudhakaran, Vidyanagar station circle inspector P Pramod and Badiyadka police sub-inspector Vinod Kumar were part of the police squad.
